The table compares household gadgets in possession by Britain citizens over a period of eleven years.
Overall, it is noticeable that most of the household items used by individuals in Britain within the given period of time showed a gradual increase over the years; however, consumer durables such as video and dishwashers were not in use at the initial stages of the period given.
To commence with, in 1972, the gadgets which were used by the vast majority of people were television and vacuum cleaners, recording 93% and 87% respectively. However, both of these durables saw a slight increase by2% each in 1974 before maintaining a constant consumption each for the next four years. Also, television use saw a slight increase by around 2% throughout the rest of the period, while vacuum use rose slightly till 1982. In 1983, using vacuum cleaners was halted by the country citizens.
Refrigerator and washing machine usage in 1972 stood at 73% and 66% respectively. Surprisingly, their proportions rose steadily throughout the entire period until 1983 when refrigerator use reached 94% compared to 80% by those who use the washing machine. Additionally, Central heating started off at 39% in 1972 and increased gradually, reaching 60% in 1982 and 64% in 1983. The video was not in use by citizens of Britain from the beginning of the period until 1983, when only 18% of individuals started showing interest. Meanwhile, Dishwasher usage saw a relatively low proportion to a figure just under 8%.
