In the Past, Lectures Were the Traditional Method of Teaching Large Numbers of Students in A Classroom

In the past, lectures were the traditional method of teaching large numbers of students in a classroom. Nowadays new technology is increasingly being used to teach students. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this new approach in teaching?

Previously, lectures were the traditional way used for teaching a huge amount of students in a classroom. Recently, the modernized way is taking over the way of teaching students. This essay will discuss the merits and demerits of the above situation.

The advantages of this situation are not so clear, but to start with, it is entertaining as compared to lectures as means of teaching students since there is the opportunity to project videos, images and texts on a board, which improves the concentration of students during class hours. Moreover, it makes teaching easier. This is because the amount of talking speech made during teaching will reduce with this new technology as, by contrast, there was a lot of talking made during lectures. For instance, a teacher will give a little explanation on a nephron when a picture of it with the labelling is projected on a board which makes teaching easier compared to lectures.

On the other part, the disadvantages of this new teaching technology used cannot be overlooked. First of all, students do not make notes during class hours. This is because they tend to download the files being used to teach after class without putting down the few words the teacher adds to the projected items on paper. And this makes the students lazy in turn. Again, this new technology promotes class skipping. Students decide not to go to class since they will have the opportunity to have all the materials they were taught after class.

To conclude, the advantages of the new technology being used to teach students outweighs its disadvantages. And I think this is a good way to teach students over lectures.
