Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to request funding for a short-term overseas course. I intend to apply for a six-months Data Science Program at Harvard University in the United States of America. This course will cover the basics of R programming. In addition, I will have practical sessions on data visualisation using R.
My reason for enrolling in this course is mainly to build relevant skills in data management and analysis. After my MSc program, I intend to continue as a PhD student at the University of Oxford. My PhD research will be focused on Immunology and Oncology. The skills that I will gain during this short course will enable me to manage my data and results during my PhD. Also, I will be able to incorporate bioinformatics which is heavily reliant on R programming, into my PhD study.
This funding will allow me to pay for my course as well as cover my overseas travel fee. The total cost of accommodation and tuition is $30,000, and this excludes travel and miscellaneous expenses. This course is an intensive training program. As a result, I will not be able to work while studying. This financial aid will go a long way in supporting me throughout the duration of my study. I have enclosed a breakdown of the study cost and the total amount required with this letter.
