Sample Answer of Describe a Time when You’re Waiting for Something Special That Would Happen

People wait for various reasons; most of the time, we wait for results or the birth of something new. Today l am going to talk about the time l spent waiting for my results after l had taken the general nurse's diploma exam. It seemed to be years, but it was only three months. L knew the outcome was going to change my entire life. Since l had always dreamt of becoming a nurse, it was also my gateway to moving abroad with my family.

Feelings of the uncertainty of whether l had passed coupled with fear of what l would be if l failed gripped me every time. l thought of the day l was going to receive my results. Many times, l wanted to spend my time listening to music or watching movies to divert my thoughts from the worrisome thoughts that would sometimes cloud my mind.

I was still at nursing school through all this difficult time of my college life, and a day would not pass by without hearing one of my colleagues asking about the specific date that we were going to get the dreaded results. I think this was one of the awful periods that l got to wait for something that would change my life entirely.

Follow-ups Describe a Time when You’re Waiting for Something Special That Would Happen

Question 1 On what occasions do people usually need to wait?

Answer. People wait for a vast number of reasons. Like l said before, people wait for the year to end as they anticipate getting into a new season of their lives; we wait for the re-election of a new government into power, especially when we are suffering economic hardships. Currently, l think everyone is waiting to see the Covid pandemic end since it has caused a lot of suffering to everyone across the globe.

Question 2 Who behaves better when waiting for children or adults?

Answer. I think both children and adults exhibit emotions of fear, anxiety or impatience. What only differentiates people is the reason they have to wait or what they anticipate to get; for example, if a child is waiting for the mother to come back from work, they will be restless and impatient as well, unlike a woman who is waiting for their spouse who is coming home from a long trip will be busy preparing the best menu and making sure the house is pristinely clean.

Question 3 Compared to the past, are people less patient now? Why?

Answer. Hmmm, that's a difficult one.l believe people are much busier these days, so waiting for longer periods means loss of opportunities compared to some five decades ago; l think people had all the time in the world to wait since there was not much to do. For example, in my country, not many women were employed then; they just spent the whole day waiting for their husbands to bring food to the table whilst they did the household chores.

Question 4 What are the positive and negative effects of waiting on society?

Answer. The benefits of waiting for the cause among the few l would think of are, you will always get results at the best time when everything is ripe; for example, you will never pick fruits from the orchard until they are ready to be eaten. Another merit associated with waiting is that if it's business, you get huge profits, unlike when you impatiently breach the contract terms because you have become impatient. For the negatives, l think if you become impatient, it results in one not honouring an agreement or fulfilling promises; thus, many parties suffer because of unkept promises. For instance, when a lady can't wait to fulfil the marriage promise that they will have made with their fiancee might result in some ghastly consequences, even the death of someone.
